Underfloor heating means comfort
Underfloor heating is perfect for a heat pump because it is optimal for the low-temperatures of around 35°C which could be supplied by the heat pump. The heat pump can work very efficiently when operating at these lower temperatures.
Conventional radiators create convection – warm air that rises to the ceiling only to drop downwards again as a cool draught around your feet. Underfloor heating systems provide a much more appropriate pleasant warm radiant heat and only produces a very gentle air circulation which varies only slightly from floor till ceiling.
Insulation is important
Floor insulation is particularly important with underfloor heating where a U-value of 0.15 w/m2k or better is required by current (2011) Building Regulations Part L. This ensures minimum heatloss downwards. It is important that underfloor heating systems are designed and installed correctly as there is no second chance to increase capacity once floors are poured. This means correctly specifying pipe spacing, maximum loop lengths, loop patterns and manifold sizes to adequately cater for room sizes and heatlosses under extreme winter conditions. Correct installation as per specification, suitable controls and commissioning all play an important part in insuring that the system operates to provide maximum efficiency and comfort throughout the heating season.
Design, installation, controls and commissioning
Airflow Services provides a complete package to incorporate design, installation, controls and commissioning as required. Where a client nominates their own competent installer we can design and supply the system.
